What is DofE Bronze Award?
Here at Lacon Childe School, we are delighted to offer students the opportunity to complete their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award (Year 9+)
The Bronze Award gives students the opportunity to discover new interests and talents, develop essential skills for life and work, improve their confidence and support their local community.
There are four sections to complete at the Bronze Award, these involve helping the community/environment, becoming fitter and healthier, developing new skills, planning, training for and completing an expedition.
Any young person can do their DofE – regardless of ability, gender, background or location. Achieving an Award isn’t a competition or about being first. It’s all about setting personal challenges and pushing personal boundaries.
The DofE programme helps young people have fun, make new friends, improve their self-esteem and build confidence. It also builds strengths beyond the curriculum and is recognised by employers, colleges and universities as a prestigious qualification.
The programme is run separately to the school curriculum by a small team of dedicated staff, led by Mrs Croxton Broome.

The benefits of doing the DofE is endless, it helps you along the path to a productive and prosperous future, even life-changing!
Achieving an Award will give you skills, confidence, and an edge over others when you apply for college, university or a job, including communication, commitment, leadership and teamwork. Your DofE Award is a fantastic way to demonstrate and evidence these skills in practice.
You will also make a difference to other people’s lives and your community, be fitter and healthier, make new friends and have memories to last you a lifetime!
Timescales
The Bronze Award is split over four sections:
Volunteering - 3 months
Physical - 3 months
Skills - 3 months
Expedition - 2 days / 1 night
You also need to spend an extra three months on either Volunteering, Physical or Skills sections and it’s your choice which one.
