Design and Technology

Our curriculum enables all students to enjoy turning ideas into a reality, whilst identifying and analysing problems in order to become creative 21st Century thinkers. We encourage students to consider the environmental impact of products and the products that they design. We have high expectations of all our students and lead by example.

Design Technology is delivered with a consistently coordinated approach. Our Key stage 3 curriculum is the springboard and foundation for students to prepare them for the GCSE requirements, whilst also giving them a rounded view of a modern consumer and designer. As a department we feel strongly that key practical skills should be developed and refined at Key stage 3, to enable students to feel confident and have the skills to work independently at Key stage 4 which is vital to allow them to flourish.

KEY STAGE 3

Year 7 and 8 are taught on a carousel rotating around Resistant Materials, Food and Textiles for a 13-week project. Year 9 is taught in shorter rotations of 6-week project x2 for each material area (Resistant Materials, Food Technology and Textiles Technology).

KEY STAGE 4

  • Key stage 4 Year 10 and 11 following GCSE Design Technology and GCSE Food preparation and Nutrition with AQA.
All students are taught by specialists.
