PE
Lacon Childe School PE Department
The PE department at Lacon Childe School is passionate about helping every student develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to lead an active and healthy lifestyle.
Our broad and inclusive curriculum allows students to experience a wide range of physical activities and sports. Through high-quality lessons, students develop their physical competence, tactical understanding, teamwork, resilience and leadership. We encourage every student to challenge themselves, experience success and discover activities they can continue beyond school.
Students can also take part in an extensive extracurricular programme at lunchtimes and after school. This includes recreational clubs, specialist coaching, team training, fixtures and competitions.
INTENT
Our curriculum aims to develop confident, knowledgeable and physically active young people.
Students will:
- Develop competence in a broad range of sports and physical activities.
- Build secure fundamental movement and sport-specific skills.
- Apply rules, strategies and tactics effectively.
- Understand how physical activity supports physical, social and emotional wellbeing.
- Develop teamwork, communication, leadership and decision-making.
- Demonstrate respect, fairness and good sportsmanship.
- Gain the confidence and motivation to remain physically active throughout their lives.
The curriculum supports the school’s values of Ambition, Integrity, Creativity and Commitment by encouraging students to set high standards, act responsibly, solve problems and persevere when faced with challenges.
IMPLEMENTATION
Students experience a varied and carefully sequenced curriculum that develops their knowledge and practical performance over time. Lessons combine purposeful practice, competition and opportunities to apply skills in increasingly demanding situations. Students learn how to perform effectively, make informed decisions and evaluate performance. Students are also given opportunities to take on different roles, including performer, coach, official and leader. These experiences help students develop independence and understand how they can contribute positively to sport and physical activity.
KS4
At Key Stage 4, all students continue to participate in core PE. Students may also choose to study AQA GCSE Physical Education, where they develop a deeper understanding of performance, training, health, fitness and the wider sporting environment.
Extracurricular Opportunities
Our extracurricular programme provides opportunities for students of all abilities to become involved in physical activity. Students can attend clubs recreationally, develop their skills through specialist training or represent Lacon Childe School in fixtures and competitions. We celebrate commitment, improvement, teamwork and sporting success. Our aim is to create a strong sporting culture in which students feel proud to participate and represent their school.
Impact
By the end of their time at Lacon Childe School, we want students to:
- Be confident and competent participants in physical activity.
- Understand the importance of maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle.
- Make informed decisions about their health, fitness and wellbeing.
- Work effectively with others and demonstrate respect and sportsmanship.
- Show resilience, responsibility and leadership.
- Leave school with positive experiences of PE and the confidence to remain active in the future.
