Careers Programme
At Lacon Childe School, our Careers Programme equips students with the knowledge, skills and experiences they need to make informed decisions about their future and achieve success in education, employment or training.
Our careers provision is designed to meet the Gatsby Benchmarks of good career guidance and is informed by the CDI Careers Development Framework, ensuring a progressive and high-quality careers education for all students.
We provide impartial careers information, advice and guidance that supports students in exploring their strengths, interests and aspirations. Through meaningful encounters with employers, further and higher education providers, and the wider world of work, students gain valuable insight into the opportunities available to them.
Our Careers Programme encourages ambition, broadens horizons and enables every student to develop the confidence, resilience and employability skills needed to make successful transitions into their next stage of education, training or employment.
In September, students, parents and carers are invited to attend our GCSE Information Evening. This event provides essential guidance on the GCSE journey ahead, outlining key expectations, support available, and strategies for success. Representatives from local post-16 providers and colleges will also be in attendance, giving families the opportunity to explore future pathways and ask questions about further education options. At Lacon Childe School, supporting students and their families to make informed decisions about their next steps is at the heart of everything we do, helping every young person to aspire, achieve and succeed in their chosen future pathway.
Year 11 begins with a programme of assemblies and presentations from local post-16 providers, colleges and training organisations. These sessions give students at Lacon Childe School the opportunity to learn about the wide range of pathways available after Year 11, including A Levels, vocational courses, apprenticeships and technical qualifications. Students gain valuable insight into the courses on offer, the facilities available, entry requirements and the wider student experience, helping them to make informed decisions about their future.
At Lacon Childe School, we are committed to providing a high-quality careers education programme that supports every student in achieving their aspirations. Our careers provision is regularly reviewed through student voice, destination data, feedback from parents and carers, and input from employers and education providers. This ensures that our programme continues to evolve, providing meaningful and relevant guidance that helps students and their families confidently navigate their next steps beyond Year 11.

Unifrog
At Lacon Childe School, we are committed to ensuring that all students are well-informed, ambitious and prepared for their next steps. To support this, we use Unifrog, an impartial careers and progression platform that provides students with access to up-to-date information about education, training and employment opportunities.
Unifrog enables students to explore the full range of pathways available after Key Stage 4 and beyond, helping them make informed decisions about their future. Students can research and compare opportunities including sixth forms, colleges, apprenticeships, vocational courses and university pathways, all within one easy-to-use platform.
The platform supports students in planning their progression by allowing them to:
- Explore and compare a wide range of post-16 and post-18 opportunities.
- Research courses, apprenticeships and career pathways across the UK.
- Record and reflect on their skills, achievements and experiences.
- Build a personal portfolio of evidence to support applications and future planning.
- Identify strengths, interests and aspirations as they prepare for adulthood and employment.
Unifrog also features a comprehensive Careers Library, helping students develop a deeper understanding of the rapidly changing world of work. The Careers Library:
- Contains over 1,000 detailed career profiles.
- Draws on local and national labour market information to highlight future opportunities.
- Provides information on the qualifications, skills and personal attributes needed for different careers.
- Includes insights from industry professionals and real-life career journeys.
- Explores progression routes, working environments and what day-to-day life in different careers is really like.
By engaging with Unifrog throughout their time at Lacon Childe School, students are encouraged to raise their aspirations, develop career readiness and confidently navigate the pathways available to them as they move towards their future goals.

Students access the platform by clicking a link in their welcome email, where they create a password and can begin using the platform. They login to Unifrog using their email address and password and they can do so from any computer, tablet or smartphone.
