Welcome to Our School

Headteacher's Welcome

I am delighted to welcome you to Lacon Childe School.

At Lacon Childe we consider ourselves to be ‘more than just a school’. We are passionate about providing the best opportunities for all our students, so they can be happy and thrive, personally, socially and academically.

We are an ambitious and high performing 11-16 school set in the beautiful South Shropshire market town of Cleobury Mortimer. We have high aspirations for our students, and a commitment to the positive role we play in our local community.

At Lacon Childe we are very proud of the school’s strong sense of community. Every member of the school is recognised and valued. Students and staff work closely to make the school a happy and stimulating place to learn and grow.

We want all our students to be excited by their infinite potential, to experience academic success and to have a sense of how capable they are. Our aim is for all students to leave us knowing that they can make a valuable contribution to the wider community, not only equipped with the knowledge, skills and qualifications to access the next stage in their journey, but also with the confidence, aptitude and resilience to build positive relationships and achieve success in their chosen pathway.

We, as a staff body, continue to be inspired by our students. We are extremely proud of their efforts and their many achievements and remain grateful for the excellent support provided by staff, parents and governors.

Thank you for visiting our website. If you are interested in finding out more about the school and what we do, or you are interested in joining us, please contact us: admin@laconchildeschool.co.uk

Poetry By Heart

Chance Memory (1916)

I can't forget the lane that goes from Steyning to the Ring
In summer time, and on the Downs how larks and linnets sing
High in the sun. The wind comes off the sea, and, oh, the air!
I never knew till now that life in old days was so fair,
But now I know it in this filthy rat-infested ditch,
When every shell must kill or spare, and God alone knows which,
And I am made a beast of prey, and this trench is my lair -
My God! I never knew till now that those days were so fair.
And we assault in half-an-hour, and - it's a silly thing,
I can't forget the lane that goes from Steyning to the Ring.
