Emergency Closure Procedures

Emergency Closure

In the case of severe weather conditions, or any other emergency including issues with water or power, we may need to close the school. In the event of severe weather, the decision can often only be made early in the morning, unless otherwise advised by the authorities.

Please be assured that we are determined to do whatever we can to stay open to staff and students despite any adverse weather conditions or other issues, but we do have to be mindful of Health & Safety both on site and importantly on the journey to and from school. We do take clear advice and guidance from our transport companies, relating to the safety of travel. The geography of our catchment area makes us quite unique, and we have to appreciate that the conditions in Clee Hill and Cleobury Mortimer as well as the small rural lanes may be significantly different to other more urban low lying areas like Ludlow, Bridgnorth and Tenbury Wells.

When a decision is made to close the school, we will endeavour to contact you by 7.00am on the day we close the school by the following:

  • Send a SMS and email via Arbor to all parents/carers with parental responsibility we
currently have on our database (Please keep us informed of any changes to your mobile
phone number so that we can update our database).
  • Place a message on our website homepage and social media feeds.

In the event of a closure, students will be set work via email and Arbor.  For closures of two or more days, students will be taught online via Microsoft Teams. Microsoft Office 365 can be accessed via the ‘student link’ tab on our websiteMicrosoft Office 365

Early Closure during the school day

We will always do what we can to stay open however there may be health and safety reasons which would force an unscheduled school closure. For example, If the bus companies determine that they need to make journeys earlier in the day due to bad weather, or if we have an issue within school like a power cut, we will have to close early and send students home before 3.15pm.

If we close during the school day, we will inform parents via Arbor by SMS and email and place a message on our website and social media feeds.

Decision to re-open following closure

The school will open the next day following closure unless a notice is posted to the contrary on our website. We will also inform you via Arbor if the school is to close for a consecutive day.

Please can we ask that you regularly monitor your emails in the mornings, particularly when severe weather is forecast. Although we will always attempt to send an SMS, technical difficulties have made this impossible on one occasion.

If you have any concerns about these arrangements, please contact the school office - admin@laconchildeschool.co.uk
