Headteacher's Welcome
At Lacon Childe we consider ourselves to be ‘more than just a school’. We are passionate about providing the best opportunities for all our students, so they can be happy and thrive, personally, socially and academically. We are an ambitious and high performing 11-16 school set in the beautiful South Shropshire market town of Cleobury Mortimer. We have high aspirations for our students, and a commitment to the positive role we play in our local community.
At Lacon Childe we are very proud of the school’s strong sense of community. Every member of the school is recognised and valued. Students and staff work closely to make the school a happy and stimulating place to learn and grow. We want all our students to be excited by their infinite potential, to experience academic success and to have a sense of how capable they are. Our aim is for all students to leave us knowing that they can make a valuable contribution to the wider community, not only equipped with the knowledge, skills and qualifications to access the next stage in their journey, but also with the confidence, aptitude and resilience to build positive relationships and achieve success in their chosen pathway.
We, as a staff body, continue to be inspired by our students. We are extremely proud of their efforts and their many achievements and remain grateful for the excellent support provided by staff, parents and governors. Thank you for visiting our website. Rachel Croxton Broome - Headteacher
Being a parent of three teenage boys and a headteacher, I am very aware of the hopes and aspirations that parents/carers and students place in education. We all want our children to be happy, confident, and secure so that they can enjoy their formative years. We want them to be supported and challenged in equal measure so that they can go on to on to realise their dreams
I am proud to be part of Shropshire Gateway Educational Trust and, as such, have high expectations of both our students and staff and respect the traditional values of hard work, good manners, and self-discipline. We recognise that learning can be challenging and so we focus on supporting students to become resilient and confident individuals who always try their best and understand that making mistakes is part of the learning process and ultimately helps us to improve. Whilst acknowledging the many additional pressures placed upon schools, the core and defining purpose of our MAT is to ensure that every day, every students' education is the best that it can be.
In my role as consultant executive headteacher at Lacon Childe School, I work alongside the current leaders to ensure their commitment to providing the highest quality educational experience where powerful knowledge sparks curiosity and interest, resulting in academic success for our children and ensuring they go on to secure places at the very best universities and apprenticeships. My role is also to ensure that the educational offer is not confined to the classroom but also on giving every student the opportunity to be the best they can through a diverse range of opportunities, activities and experiences which equips and prepares them with the social and cultural capital needed to compete and be successful.
I am thrilled to be supporting this thriving school community where the children are enthusiastic, motivated, ambitious to succeed and capable of very high standards of behaviour and engagement in their studies.
